Hi, I’m Alston Cox, welcome to my website. I’m represented at Cualtzin Arte, 1512 E Houston St, San Antonio, TX 78202. You can also find me on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.

I first fell in love with photography as a middle school student in the 1980s, when my art teacher lent me a 35mm camera. I spent countless hours in the darkroom developing film and printing images, drawn to the magic of image-making from an early age. This passion led me to pursue a degree in Communication Arts with a focus in Photography & Video Production at The University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. Over the years, I also explored Fine Arts and Creative Writing, weaving together a multidisciplinary foundation that continues to shape my creative practice.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked as a freelance photographer and actively participated in the San Antonio film community. My short films have been featured in the San Antonio Underground Film Festival and Luminaria Arts Festival, and I was involved in the Short Ends Project, a collaborative film initiative. My photography has been exhibited as part of Fotoseptiembre, San Antonio's annual month-long photography festival.

In 2006, after losing access to my darkroom, I turned to painting—discovering a similar passion for manipulating light, form, and emotion. Since then, I’ve studied drawing and painting at the Southwest School of Art and the Coppini Academy of Fine Art, and have participated in workshops with accomplished artists. I first exhibited my paintings in 2007 and began painting full-time in 2022.

Today, I work both en plein air and in the studio, taking on commissions for homes, pets, and portraits. My work was featured in the San Antonio Community College Library in 2023 and 2024. I am currently represented by Jane Garza at Cualtzin Arte.

I live and work in San Antonio, Texas.
